MANCHESTER, N.H. – A retired South Burlington, Vt., lawyer is the author of the book Tales from the ‘Nam released this week by Oak Manor Publishing, Inc. of Manchester, N.H.
David A. Nicholson of South Burlington reveals his perspectives of serving with the U.S. Army’s First Cavalry Division from 1969-1970. The 246-page paperback is a sometimes irreverent view of the Army along with vivid accounts of being a “grunt” in the jungles of Vietnam. Nicholson served in Vietnam from November 1969 to July 1970.
The author earnestly wanted to fight in Vietnam following his graduation from Middlebury College in 1968. When the Army assigned him to be a finance clerk, the scrappy Nicholson fought to be an infantryman. On joining Lonely Platoon in Vietnam, Nicholson chose to take one of the most dangerous positions in combat, a point man.
Nicholson grippingly and poignantly presents the reader with many interesting insights to being an infantryman in the harsh, unforgiving jungles of “The ‘Nam.” He tells about fighting the North Vietnamese in several battles, losing buddies, being wounded, and his return to a scene of death and destruction. “This is not fiction,” comments Oak Manor publisher John Greene. “Tales from the ‘Nam is a real-life, intriguing insight to the Vietnam War by one brave and lucky guy.”
Tales from the ‘Nam currently may be purchased at Amazon.com; OakManorPublishing.com; and soon will be available through local book stores, as well as Borders and Barnes & Noble.
